Hair salon
When we first moved here, I was looking for a place to take the kids to get their hair cut. All that they were used to were places designed around kids, where they would sit on a modified Power Wheels or a pony to get their haircut. I asked around and at the time there was nothing like it around. About a week after I took them somewhere else, and was not really happy with the cuts, I saw an ad in the local paper for exactly what I was looking for!! I have now taken Jason and can say for sure that I will be going back. They are a full service salon with a couple of kid chairs facing a television so they can watch a movie and get their haircut at the same time :) The name of the salon is Cool Stylz Studio and they are located across from Kmart in the same shopping center as COX cable 850.279.4620. They offer a $3.00 discount to active duty and a kids haircut is $14.

Emily's first Progress Report
Emily got her first Progress report this week from school. In Kindergarten they don't really get grades, just Satisfactory-Needs Improvement-or Unsatisfactory. She got all S's and is very proud of that. I would say she is doing pretty well since she keeps telling us about all the kids that she helps to escort around the school for different things. Conferences are set for the beginning of October, so I can find out more then.

Unity Park
It seems we have been making a routine of going to this park on base on the weekends. The neat thing is, I can remember when they built it when Emily was little. The kids have a great time running around and playing. All that playing in this humidity makes one very hot and thirsty--

Emily is patiently waiting for her turn. (It was her drink afterall)
If we plan it well and have them come in bathing suits, there is a splash park right next to the playground so they could cool off there. This way we could go do something right after without a complete wardrobe change.

More Adventures with Petey
Keeping Petey safe in the car. It was too complicated to make sure he was buckled in with both kids in. When Emily wasn't with us Jason was very concerned about Petey's safety and insisted that we buckle him in.
Playing on the tire swing at the park on base. Notice Jason holding his flipper (have to keep Petey safe).
Petey decided that he was done being a backseat driver and took control!
Petey was very helpful with putting the Diego puzzles together.
Petey wanted to see the fish at Bass Pro, unfortunately he had a little misshap with the shark out front. :(

Jason's Adventures with Petey
Jason's classroom "friend" stayed the weekend with us. His name is Petey the Penguin. This thing is such a hit with other kids, that I can't imagine what he will look like at the end of the year. Jason has seemed to embrace the idea of looking after his friend and he holds his flipper when we are driving in the car to make sure he stays safe. At night Jason tucks him in under a blanket on the floor for their "sleep over." We sure will have a lot adventures to talk about on Tuesday when Petey goes back to school.

Petey needed some exercise, so he decided to ride on the scooter.

Another First for Emily
We have had an exciting couple of weeks with Emily learning new things. Last weekend she learned to ride her bike without training wheels and now can even get herself started. She also has learned to tie her own shoes!! This definately will speed up the getting ready routine since we have been making her try to do it herself for a while. Now we ask her to get her shoes on and before we know it they are on and tied and she is ready to go!! She is so proud of herself with all of these accomplishments. We are proud of her too.

Gustav
The storm has passed. There were reports of tornadoes in the area, but nothing directly affected us. We had a little wind and some rain, typical Florida thunderstorms and not much worse for our area. We are thankful to have dodged another storm.
Emily Rides Her Bicycle
Today Emily asked Kirt to take off her training wheels. We made sure that she understood what exactly that meant and that she could fall, but she said that she still wanted them off. We thought that it would take several tries to get it down so the only camera I had out was my cell phone. To our surprise, she just needed a little help getting started and then she was off. She was even able to avoid obsticles, like other children playing in the street without falling!! We are so proud of her latest accomplishment and judging by the ear to ear grin she had, I think she is pretty proud of herself.
