Preparing for Gustav

Well here we are one week after Fay and we have to let the kids play outside while they can before the rain starts. This time we might actually get some significant rainfall. We will see. Just glad that for now it is not forecast to hit us! What a doosy of a storm.



We took the kids this morning to the splash park on base. They seemed to have a lot of fun. Even Daddy got in on some of the fun. Then we came home and they played with the neighbor kids for about 2-3 hours. We got some tennis raquets on Friday and they seem to be a big hit with the kids. Some of them are pretty good. The clouds are starting to roll in and I am sure the rain will follow soon. We will hope that the storm weakens a little more before slamming into LA!

I don't know where Jason picked up the little strut that he has here, but it was pretty funny watching him.

Jason's First Day of Preschool

Jason had his first day of preschool today. He was very excited to go this morning and did very well when I left him. He must have taken notes when I dropped Emily off last year. He came over to me gave me a hug on the leg and said, "bye mommy," then went back to playing. I don't know what I will do with my 4 hours of free time. I'm sure I will find something to pass the time. Today's project was the playroom-- it's amazing how quickly one can organize toys when there are no kids around :) When I went to pick him up, he was very excited to tell me about his day and his teachers said that he did great today. Sounds like this preschool was a good choice for him. He will go 3 days a week this year and 4 days a week next year.

Emily was excited for him, I think :)

Tropical Storm Fay

We, like many families on the Emerald Coast, braced for the 10-15 inches of rain that was forcasted for Saturday and Sunday. However, we didn't see much more than some overcast skies and some drizzle over the weekend. So we made the best of it and played outside this weekend. Saturday night Emily and Jason enjoyed their coaster cars and Sunday we went to the Turkey Creek Nature Walk and then played outside with the neighbors from about 11-2 (and neither one had a nap). Needless to say, Sunday night's bedtime was fairly early with not much of a fight...

First Day of Kindergarten

Today was Emily's first day of kindergarten. Hard to believe that 5 years have passed already. She woke up at around 6 am and was ready to eat breakfast and get to school. We will see how long that lasts. When it was time we walked to the bus stop and off she went. It was pretty sweet that she was reasuring Jason that he didn't need to be scared and she would be fine. Not sure if she was projecting her fears to him, but sweet none the less. At the end of the day she got off the bus and said she had a great day and was ready to go again tomorrow.

Visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Homosassa

When we finished visiting Deb's family at the beach we were off to Homosassa to visit Kirt's family. We were able to get out on the boat between rain showers on Saturday. We all had a blast. Kirt an his brother were able to play around in the water like they did when they were kids. Emily and Jason even decided to go for a swim in the 72 degree water.


On Monday we went to the Homosassa wildlife park so the kids could check on the animals that they saw the last time we were there.


Wednesday we drove back home so we could attend Emily's orientation for Kindergarten.

Fun In Daytona

The first week of August we went to Daytona Beach. My parents own a time share at an ocean front condo and this year we were able to make it into a mini family reunion. The kids, even the big ones, had a blast.
Emily was able to boogie board for the first time.

Jason tried it and preferred to play in the sand.
We built sand castles and went for long walks near the surf. Thanks to Jason we were able to watch the sunrise every morning
